Nottingham Forest travelled to an inform Sheffield Wednesday today and despite having the better of the chances, came away with what must be viewed as a well earned point, following a 1-1 draw.
The reborn Nathan Tyson was forced to sit this one out, following the birth of his Son the previous night and Radoslaw Majewski also missed out, after picking up a knee injury on the training ground on Friday. With Joel Lynch drafted into defence, this on paper looked a weaker side, than the one that beat the Sheep a fortnight before. Any pre match fears were quickly dispelled though, as Dexter Blackstock bagged his 4th goal of the season within the opening 2 minutes.
Just before Dex put the Reds’ in front, Joe Garner forced Owls keeper Lee Grant to pull off a great save from his fierce shot. Seconds later, Anderson floated over a terrific ball, that was met by Blackstock, who headed home from just 6 yards out. The goal stung the home side into action and they could have levelled through Varney, but his tame shot went wide. Marcus Tudgay then forced Lee Camp into action, when he had to tip his effort over the bar, as the Owls began to take control.
Blackstock should have added to his tally but waisted a chance, when he put Anderson’s through ball wide of the post. The home sides pressure was rewarded on the 39th minute, when a Tudgay volley took a cruel deflection off Wes Morgan to pull Wednesday level.
The second half saw both sides have chances, but the best fell to the impressive Paul Anderson, who brought out another great save from Lee Grant. Anderson’s dipping shot was heading for goal, when Grant somehow got his fingers on it and tipped the ball over the bar.
A draw was probably a fair result at the end of the day and although the Reds’ are still in search of their first away win, it wont be long in coming with performances like this.
