Too many changes could be Lamouchi’s downfall after getting things back on track – Opinion

|

It looks like he might finally be learning something, but is he in danger of over-thinking things?

Admittedly, it’s taken longer than perhaps was necessary, but at least it’s better late than never. And the club is still very much in with a shout of securing a top 6 spot, with plenty of time in which to implement the changes that he’s hinting at, so it’s not all totally doom and gloom on that front.

Speaking after the victory over Wigan Athletic yesterday, Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi talked about how he wasn’t particularly happy with the way his team played, and although his team managed to pick up all three points, they won’t always be this lucky as the season continues:

“After Hull, it was really important to win today but it was so hard, very tough and we didn’t play so well. How many times have we played much better but lose the points, so this is football. We have to accept this today but we have to change it. If we play like this at home, we will not win all the time. We need to find a different way for the next game.”

The problem with Lamouchi is that a lot of this is still new to him. In his previous jobs, the demands on the players in regards to the schedule were nowhere near as tough as they are in the Championship, and he’s approaching this all for the first time.

He talks about changes, but changing has sometimes been his downfall this season. As I spoke a few weeks ago, there are times when you just need to stick with what you know rather than trying to think things through too much. Is it really a case of trying to find a Plan B? Or should the club be focusing on trying to make Plan A as good as it can be so that we don’t have to resort to continuous chopping and changing?

Where do Forest need the most investment in the window?

That’s the challenge that Lamouchi and Forest will have for the rest of the season, and hopefully they’ll be able to work out what’s best for them, otherwise the club could be in for another disappointing end to the season.
