Time For Calderwood To Be Ruthless

There’s a time and a place for everything in life and now is the time for Colin Calderwood to realise that certain members of his squad just aren’t good enough for the Championship. In Wes Morgan and Luke Chambers, we have two players that are in my opinion quite frankly a liability at this level.

Some will argue that Chambers is being played out of position and that he is more suited to the role of centre back. If that’s the case, then play him there and not at right back where he’s like a fish out of water. In the 2-1 defeat against Burnley, he was beaten time and time again for pace and when he did get forward his delivery into the box was horrendous.

As for Wes Morgan, I have never been his biggest fan. He can’t head, he can’t pass and he’s not the greatest tackler in the world either. It’s almost seen as treason for people to criticise one of our home grown boys, but we have to face facts, he simply isn’t good enough. Fair enough, he provides great entertainment when marauding through the middle of the park like a bulldozer gone mad, but we need someone with a bit more finesse in the middle of defence.

I’m prepared to be shot down in flames for these comments, but until we strengthen at the back and admit that some of our players aren’t going to cut it, then we’re in for a very long season indeed. I’m not jumping on a player bashing bandwagon because of this one defeat, but merely pointing out something that’s clearly wrong with the side and has been for some time.

In League 1 we had the meanest defence in the division, but the Championship is a whole new ball game, with more cunning, experienced and better players all round. Failure to invest in a decent right back and a quality partner for Wilson in the middle, can only mean one thing for the Forest faithful and that’s a season of struggle. Right then lads. Take aim and FIRE!
