Calderwood Not Playing The Blame Game

Not for the first time as manager of the Reds’, Colin Calderwood remains steadfastly loyal to his players and refuses to blame them for the defeat at home to the Clarets.

It would have been a bolt from the blue if CC had come out and publicly slated any of his charges, following a disappointing result yesterday. But surely those at fault will have been reprimanded in some way behind closed doors?

As usual the gaffer is drawing the positives from this defeat and rightly believes the penalty decision that gave the visitors all three points was harsh. Although Morgan was having a mare of a game, the decision that led to the penalty, was harsh to say the least.

Calderwood told the official site. ‘We’ve got to look back at things we did well but two set-plays have given them the chance to score their goals. But I can’t be too harsh on the players – they put in a great effort and there was a good response in the second half especially.’

We did in fact play well in spells, but CC should not ignore the fact that we were pretty woeful at times as well. I hope for his sake that several players were read the riot act following the game, because if we get many more showings like this we’ll be in a dogfight at the bottom of the table before too long. It’s all well and good standing by the players, but there are times when they need a bullet up the backside and I think this is one of those times.
