Nottingham Forest’s Nuno da Costa has revealed that he decided to move to the Championship side because of boss Sabri Lamouchi.

The forward arrived at the City Ground towards the end of the January window and he has struggled to make an impact since signing, with his one and only appearance coming from the bench in a defeat to Charlton back in February. Needing time to get up to fitness, da Costa will have benefited from this enforced break as he looks to help the Reds back to the Premier League when the season resumes.

And, he gave further details on why he left Strasbourg for the East Midlands earlier this year when speaking to Chronos in France, with Lamouchi’s words convincing him it was the right thing to do.

I’m 29, I didn’t have the game time I wanted at Strasbourg, and I got this phone call from Nottingham and the manager convinced me to believe in that project, and I think we can do nice things.

If I didn’t see the point, I wouldn’t have gone. Considering the club was in a good spot to go up, and it still is in the playoffs, I think that and the fact the manager guaranteed me game time and that I’d be happy, I accepted.”

Will Sabri Lamouchi sign a new contract?

As mentioned, da Costa had been hindered by injuries since coming to England, with a knock picked up in an U23 game preventing him from making the squad for the past five league games. He will hope to play his part for the run-in though, as the Reds look to end their long stay outside the Premier League.

Lamouchi’s men are currently fifth in the Championship, trailing the automatic promotion places by ten points but they do hold a five-point cushion over the chasing play-off pack with just nine games remaining. However, it’s still not clear when, or if, the season will restart.
