Should He Stay Or Should He Go?

Although it’s still mathematically possible for Forest to secure automatic promotion, the 1-1 draw at home to Walsall on Saturday virtually assigns us to a playoff place.

The Forest boss had to endure the fans frustrations at the end of the game yesterday, when seemingly from all corners of the ground boos rang out. There was no mention of that from him after the game, but he will surely have heard them and will know that his days are numbered if he fails us once again.

The loyal fanbase this club has the luxury of having, will not tolerate another failed season and calling for the managers head may only be the start. Forest are on the slide at the moment and show no signs of halting it. If the present points haul is not improved upon, then the playoffs will be out of sight as well.

It’s now 5 games without a win and we’re at the business end of the season when we should be picking the points up thick and fast. But the harsh reality, is that this squad is not as good as it thinks it is. We supposedly have the strongest squad in the division, but results and the table say otherwise. Added to that, we have a manager who continually plays men out of position and is too negative in his philosophy on the game. He has an in built ‘must not lose’ mentality that stifles the players and infuriates the fans. The standard of football at times is not only a disgrace, but an embarrassment as well. We actually have players who can’t trap a ball and who are incapable of passing. These are professionals for Gods sake! Even for League 1 it’s poor.

The boo’s that rang round the City Ground yesterday are only the start unfortunately. Calderwood has now lost the fans and he has an almost impossible job in winning them back. He can only do that by winning football matches and he doesn’t seem able to do that at the present time.

So where do we go from here in an effort to save the season? There’s two options for the club to take and both have risks. The first one is, he stays and we carry on as we are and maybe, just maybe we’ll make the playoffs. How we progress in them with CC again is anyone’s guess. The second option is for him to go and we appoint from within as we did with ‘Charlie and Frank’. Someone like reserve team coach John Pemberton, who has done a fantastic job with the Stiffs could galvanise the squad and get us to the playoffs under a good run of form and with the momentum to take us further. Of course it could all go tits up, but that’s how it’s going at the moment. I know which one I’d opt for, what about you?
