Sabri Lamouchi not out of the woods yet despite victory over Hull City – Opinion

|

Well that result was one way to quiet things down.

Having gone the best part of a month without picking up three points, Nottingham Forest finally managed to get back to winning ways with a victory over Hull City, a result even more impressive by the fact they were able to overturn the result from earlier in the season, and in fairness, it couldn’t have come at a much better time.

As has been noted, Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi is working this year under a one-year-contract, and as Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s character Art Howe put it in Moneyball “a 1-year contract says the same thing to a manager as it does to a player: There’s not a lot of faith there”.

Combine that with Nottingham Forest’s history when it comes to managers and the constant turnover, it’s not out of the realms of possibility to think that Lamouchi could have been out of a job if results didn’t start to turn themselves around, but that doesn’t mean that he is out of the woods yet. Whilst he may have managed to stop the rot with that result, there is still plenty of work to be done.

Having been top of the table towards the end of September, Forest now find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture, and given that there is an eleven-point gap between them and second-placed Leeds, there’s really only the playoffs left to fight for.

But if Forest find themselves going through another stretch in the season without a win, and that gap between them and the playoffs begins to widen, then it might just give the board enough of a reason to say ‘au revoir’ to the Frenchman, and bring someone in to finish the job that he started.

When he first took over, Lamouchi spoke about how the Championship comes across as ‘the worst league in the world’, and he’s certainly learning that the hard way.

Will Nottingham Forest get promoted this season?

Yes

No

Now hopefully he’ll have picked up enough tips along the way to get him through the rest of the campaign.
