Report: Oxford United manager tells Nottingham Forest how much to pay for Gavin Whyte

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Gavin Whyte, with Martin O’Neill looking to strengthen his options out wide this summer. Ben Osborn (no goal since January 1, no assist since January 26) and Matty Cash (no goal since January 26, one assist all season) have been short of goals and assists in 2019 and may not command starting places at the City Ground next season.
Whyte is on Forest’s radar after scoring and creating 16 goals in 47 games for Oxford United in 2018/19, having only joined from Crusaders the previous summer. He’s been linked with a number of clubs, but manager Karl Robinson has warned Forest among others that he won’t come cheap.
He told the Oxford Mail: “It’s going to cost over £4million for Gavin Whyte. That’s what it is. We’ve had nothing, so I’m not talking about any other club. I don’t want any other club to think I’m being disrespectful. But we have a value.”
Forest have been over-reliant on goals from Lewis Grabban (16 goals, 3 assists) and Joe Lolley (11 goals, 11 assists) which could lead to O’Neill bringing more than one winger to the City Ground. Whyte would be competing with Matty Cash for a spot in the side and may fancy his chances of playing due to their contrasting form last season.
Time will tell if the Reds match his asking price.
