Toby Edser says he’s “pushing” to stay at Woking on loan for longer than a month, as he’s enjoying himself at Kingfield Stadium. The 20-year-old joined from Nottingham Forest earlier in August and has contributed two goals in four National League appearances.
Competitive football will always trump playing in the reserves and Edser says he’d much prefer staying at Woking rather than returning to Nottingham. The midfielder has found his playing in the non-league beneficial for his development and naturally wants to continue it for as long as possible.
Edser told Surrey Live (h/t Nottinghamshire Live): “I’m absolutely delighted to be back. I’m really enjoying myself, getting games and more experience. I’m originally here for a month on loan. I’d love to stay here for longer, but if I’m honest it’s not down to me.
It’s hard to see Forest standing in the way of extending his loan spell at Woking. The Reds should be pleased that a product of their academy is performing well and wants to continue. He’s unlikely to get in the first-team under Sabri Lamouchi just yet, so it makes sense to stay at Kingfield.
With Tiago Silva and Joao Carvalho ahead of him in the pecking order at Forest, Edser is better off staying at Woking and benefitting from regular playing time. Since making the loan move two weeks ago, the Englishman has amassed 346 minutes of league football from a possible 360.
