Port Vale confirm they have signed Jake Taylor on loan until January 2020. The 20-year-old has a difficult task of getting into the Nottingham Forest first-team under Sabri Lamouchi, so he’s sought a loan move away from the City Ground to continue his development. He’ll now join up with ex-teammate Adam Crookes who signed for Vale permanently over the summer.

At Forest, Taylor has the likes of Alfa Semedo, Samba Sow, Ben Watson, Ryan Yates and John Bostock ahead in the pecking order. The competition is so fierce that even Claudio Yacob and Liam Bridcutt can’t make the matchday squads. Joining Vale should allow him to get competitive football at a level best-suited to his current ability.

Forest should be monitoring his progress in League Two, so Taylor could put himself in contention of first-team football upon his return if he impresses over the next four months. Vale are currently 16th in the table with six points from their first five games of the season. They’re unbeaten in their previous four matches but winless in their last three.

Whether Taylor is in any condition to feature for Vale against Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon remains to be seen, however.
