According to Paul Taylor of The Athletic, Nottingham Forest ‘will position themselves’ to sign Dwight Gayle. Forest were keen on the £60k-per-week Newcastle United striker over the summer and could return for Gayle in January as they need more firepower.

Gayle has struggled for playing time due to injury this season, making just one Premier League appearance. The 29-year-old finds himself behind Joelinton, Yoshinori Muto & Andy Carroll in the pecking order and may have to leave for more playing time.

Sabri Lamouchi has Lewis Grabban, Rafa Mir and Sammy Ameobi at his disposal in attack at Forest, but only Grabban has been getting among the goals – Mir & Ameobi have just one goal between them this season. The Reds manager has previously admitted wanted another striker in the squad too.

Whether that’s Gayle remains to be seen, however. The Englishman may not be keen to drop down a division and will have lofty wage demands. His scoring record in the second tier is impressive – 59 goals and 16 assists in 100 Championship games – but he may be a hard player to lure away from Newcastle.
