Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of defender Kieron Freeman appears to have been given a helping hand, after a report from Yorkshire Live claimed that Huddersfield Town are not in the running for his signature.

Freeman left Sheffield United after five years at Bramall Lane at the end of this season, meaning he is now a free-agent, although it appears there is already demand for his services from the Championship.

A recent report from The Daily Mail had claimed that Forest – where Freeman started his career – Swansea, and Huddersfield are all interested in signing the 28-year-old.

According to the latest reports however, Huddersfield are not interested in signing Freeman, and while the club are looking to strengthen in their full-back positions this summer, Freeman is not a candidate to fill that role.

It is therefore thought that it is highly unlikely that Freeman will be at the John Smith’s Stadium for the current campaign.

That would seemingly leave Forest battling just one other club – Swansea – for the signing of Freeman, although it remains to be seen whether any other interest could emerge from elsewhere.

This does look to be a boost for Forest, who may well need to strengthen their own full-back positions this summer, amid the continuing speculation around Matty Cash.

Huddersfield’s absence from the race gives Forest one less team to compete with for this signing, meaning they may not have to push quite as hard as they otherwise would have done.

However, considering Swansea themselves showed plenty of promise last season, a move to the Liberty Stadium could still be tempting for a Welshman such as Freeman, meaning you feel a return to The City Ground for the defender remains far from certain.
