Nottingham Forest may have been dealt with a significant injury blow ahead of their trip to face Middlesborough on Monday night as Tiago Silva is a serious doubt to feature in the crunch clash.

The Reds will travel to the North East to take on Jonathan Woodgate’s struggling side in what is a gargantuan game for the club in the race for automatic promotion. A victory at the Riverside Stadium could narrow the gap to Leeds United in second place to just six points after the Whites beat Hull City 4-0 on Saturday.

But they could be without Tuesday night’s winner Tiago Silva after leaving fans confused and shocked with a social media post. The Portuguese attacking midfielder posted on Instagram (via the Nottingham Post) “I’ll be back soon” next to a picture of himself on Instagram, despite no official announcement from the club or manager Sabri Lamouchi.

The 26-year-old was the first signing of the Frenchman’s tenure at the City Ground after the previous boss Martin O’Neill was dismissed. Silva has two goals and four assists to his name in 35 Championship appearances during the current campaign, proving to be an essential asset for Lamouchi as his side continue to chase the top-two.

With the amount of game time that the former Portugal U21 international has had this season, it will come as a big blow to Forest who will be aiming to have the strongest squad possible with just 11 games left of the season. A win would mean they extend the game away from seventh-placed Bristol City to eight points, and narrow the gap at the top.

Having had a big say in our season so far, Lamouchi will want Silva to play for sure, as he benefits the team that links the midfielders to the attackers with his vision and attacking play. If Silva plays, Forest will in a better state to beat Middlesbrough.
