Reds’ Get Back On Track

Forest were better in every department today and took control of the game from the start. Any doubts of the Reds’ promotion credentials were put firmly away as they gave the Railwaymen a footballing lesson.


Forest were to play some neat and tidy football, none too shabby in the entertainment stakes either, as they dominated proceedings from the off. They had to wait half an hour for the breakthrough. Grant Holt got the ball rolling after 32 mins, with a curler from 12 yards. But Crewe were awarded a penalty 3 mins later, after Morgan brought down Maynard. Gary Roberts levelled for the home side, some may say lucky to be level.

The disappointment was to be short lived as within 2 mins Tyson had restored Forests’ lead. In a frantic 10 min spell Tyson had his hat-trick. One with either foot and one with his head.

Although they failed to add to the score in the second half, the Reds’ still played at a high tempo and came close with efforts from Tyson and Grant Holt. The recently recalled John Thompson came on as a second half substitution and could have made it five.

This will go down as an important win for Calderwoods’ men, as the critics were beginning to gather after a week that saw them get their first away defeat at Bournemouth. This result will go a long way to silence anyone who dares to criticise Calderwood or his team. Still five points clear and very much, having a laugh.
