Opinion: Nottingham Forest should sign 29-year-old to boost promotion hopes

|

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are interested in James McClean and could make an approach for the Stoke City winger before the January transfer window comes to a close. Martin O’Neill managed McClean when the pair were at Sunderland and could renew acquaintances with the winger if Stoke allow him to leave.

McClean could be open to a move away from the Britannia Stadium, although the Potters may not be happy to let him leave. The Irish international has made 24 Championship appearances this season, scoring and creating eight goals, and could be a useful addition to the Forest squad.

Goals have scarce of late, with the Reds failing to score in seven of their last nine games in all competitions, so a player like McClean could turn their fortunes around. Forest’s promotion hopes have taken a big hit in 2019, with the Midlands outfit currently sitting 12th in the Championship and seven points off playoffs, so new recruits are needed.

McClean has bags of Premier League experience, high levels of industry and he’s proven he can create goals this season. He wouldn’t be a bad option for Forest if they can agree a deal with Stoke.
