Despite his Premier League pedigree, I had high hopes for Sammy Ameobi when he signed for Nottingham Forest.

The £2.7m-rated man’s free transfer last summer was greeted with a lot of controversy by the City Ground faithful.

Ameobi had a good start to the campaign and his efforts were recognised during the first half of the season. The former Newcastle United ace got on the scoresheet against Stoke City as the Reds temporarily moved top of the Championship.

However, his form slowed down as the season progressed. After scoring during our 2-1 win against Luton Town in November, he then went 16 games without a goal before bagging in that huge game against Leeds United.

Granted, he did tally five assists in that timeframe and there were good things that he did against QPR before Christmas, but he does not do it consistently enough for me.

Should Sammy Ameobi leave the club in the summer?

No

Supporters have realised this and turned on him after the 1-1 draw against Reading in January. Since that game, he has scored just once and has three goals to his name in the Championship throughout the current campaign.

Ameobi is so far behind his teammate Lewis Grabban, who has almost carried us at times with his 17 goals this season. The 32-year-old has an average of 2.2 shots per game, compared to Ameobi who has just 1.6 shots per game.

We need someone that can keep up with Grabban as far as scoring goals are concerned. Even though he has seven assists to his name this season, I still feel that he could have done a lot better.

As a result, I believe that Ameobi should be moved on in the summer and for his wages to be used in bringing in better quality in the attacking department.
