According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Nottingham Forest ‘have made an approach’ for Kevin McDonald. The 30-year-old has been short of playing time at Fulham and has the ‘green light to leave’ the Cottagers before the January transfer window closes.
McDonald has amassed only 623 minutes of Premier League football this season due to an ankle injury that has led to him falling down the pecking order. The Scotland international has only made one league appearance for Fulham since November and Forest are looking to capitalise on the situation.
He’s led a nomadic career, playing for the likes of Dundee FC (65 appearances), Burnley (64 appearances), Scunthorpe United (five appearances), Notts County (11 appearances), Sheffield United (91 appearances) and Wolverhampton Wanders (126 appearances) before he joined Fulham (105 appearances) in 2016. His contract still has 18 months to run at Craven Cottage.
Forest aren’t short on midfielders – Ben Watson, Liam Bridcutt, Claudio Yacob, Jack Colback, Adlene Guedioura – so it’s hard to see them jumping at the chance to add competition to the engine room. Martin O’Neill is looking to strengthen his side, but Forest have a more fervent need to sign a centre-back.
