England U’21’s took a slender 2-1 advantage into the 2nd leg of their Euro 2011 Playoff match with Romania last night at Carrow Road, infront of a very respectable 25,000 crowd. Second half goals from Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson and Man Utd defender Chris Smalling secured victory for England.

Forest onloan defender Ryan Bertrand had a decent game, but was unfortunate to have gifted the visitors an equaliser after he deflected a shot into his own goal midway through the 2nd half. It was the only black mark on an otherwise good night for the youngster who seems to be growing in stature with each game he plays. The U’21’s face a tough return leg on Tuesday in Botosani, where a positive result will see them through to the finals next summer in Denmark.

Another Forest player on international duty last night was Chris Gunter, who had a night to forget when his Welsh side went down 1-0 in Cardiff to Bulgaria. Gunter was sent off late in the game for a professional foul and will miss the game on Tuesday night against Switzerland in Basle. The Welsh now have a mountain to climb to qualify, having now lost their opening two games.
