Forest striker David McGoldrick made his first appearance of the season for the Reds’ yesterday, with a 45 minute run out for the reserves.

McGoldrick had been out of action since he dislocated a shoulder during pre season, but after recovering from surgery, he made his first appearance for the club in the 1-1 draw against Rotherham reserves at the City Ground yesterday afternoon.

After coming through the game with no ill effects, he told the official site. ‘I felt pretty good. I’ve been working hard in training and felt as though I could have played for longer than 45 minutes. But the most important thing is that I’m back playing and came through feeling absolutely fine.’

This weekends game against Swansea will probably be too early for a return to first team action, but it’s good to see him edging closer to a starting place. He has a lot to prove this season, after having a slow start last year. Manager Billy Davies has kept faith with him and clearly believes he has promise. It’s up to him now to deliver on that promise and show us what he can do.
