Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa at the City Ground, Eric Lichaj penned a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

The 29 year old full back has signed a new deal keeping him contracted at the club until the summer of 2019 and it’ll obviously be a boost for the player after his goals against Arsenal in the FA Cup won him a doggy!

The popular American came into the club back in 2013 and is now close to 200 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the game, he told the Official Forest Site.

‘I am delighted. It is my fifth season now so I am looking forward to a few more. I really like it here so it was an easy decision for me. It has been on the table for a bit and then there was the change of manager but it is over the line and it has been a pretty good week for me. My family is all settled here, my wife has a business, we’ve got a dog now and I like it here. I like the city, the fans and I am enjoying it and now it is a challenge for me to try and get this club in the Premier League.’

Reflecting on defeat to his former side, he said post game.

‘It was a difficult test today; they got an early goal and then we couldn’t open the door to get our goal. It was a frustrating night. They scored then just sat back and we couldn’t find a way through on goal. We had a couple of chances but couldn’t get the goal we needed.’

He added.

‘It is never a good thing to lose at home. It just seemed to break down when we got into the final third, myself included, and we need to get back out at the training ground and work hard to see what we can do next week. We are always working hard as a team and hopefully we can get it right next week.’
