Journalist offers strong view of Sabri Lamouchi’s position at Forest

|

The Athletic’s Nottingham Forest reporter Paul Taylor says that manager Sabri Lamouchi’s position at the club is likely to be ‘in peril’ following their failure to secure a place in the Championship play-offs this season.

Wednesday night’s capitulation that saw them lose 4-1 at home to Stoke, coupled with Swansea’s victory at Reading by the same scoreline, saw Lamouchi’s side slip out of the top-six on goal difference, having held a five-goal advantage over Swansea in that particular area, going into those final games of the season.

Now it seems as though Taylor believes that the events of the past few weeks could come back to haunt Lamouchi, as discussing the Frenchman’s future on The Athletic’s Going Up, Going Down Podcast, he said: “Let’s not beat around the bush, I think his position is going to be in peril. I don’t think necessarily that any decisions have been made, but I think there will be some thought given to it.

“The fact he signed a new contract will not protect him if the owners decide that they do want to make a change.”

Indeed, Taylor appears to expect there to be some form of response from the club’s owners, as he continued: “There is going to be some kind of inquest, there is going to be some kind of investigation into how and why that’s happened.

“If they decide that the manager is responsible, then there might be a price to pay for that.”

You do feel as though questions have to be asked about Lamouchi here.

It wasn’t just that one defeat against Stoke that cost, but a run of six games without a win at the end of the regular season, which will cause huge concern for Forest when it comes to their chances of getting over the line in the future.

Indeed, given the reputation Forest’s owners have for changing managers, it would be no huge surprise if Lamouchi was to soon bid farewell to the club.
