Is it a bit too early in the season to be talking about where you should be finishing come May?

I personally think it is, but that hasn’t stopped Sky Sports’ David Prutton from offering up his opinion on one of his former teams.

Speaking in his weekly column for Sky Sports previewing this weekend’s game with Fulham, the former Forest man said that:

“Nottingham Forest have had an okay start under Sabri Lamouchi, but they still have a bit of work to do to prove whether they have top-six credentials. Home win for me.”

However, I think Prutton has somewhat sold the Reds short here. Whilst the results could be better, I think that the club have done not just okay, but incredibly well given the circumstances they were presented with. As I spoke about yesterday, Forest are somewhat in a false position in the table. They were given an incredibly tough start to the season with their opening two games being against teams that finished 3rd and 4th in the table last year.

As I keep pointing out Forest actually did incredibly well in those two games, and if it weren’t for the two horrendous errors by Aro Muric that let the Baggies back into the first game, they’d have come away with four points. Since then they’ve gone on a very impressive unbeaten run that included a 3-0 victory over a Birmingham side that themselves had made an unbeaten start to the season.

I mentioned earlier in the summer that I have high hopes for Forest this season, and their start to the campaign has been very good. If they can just cut out a couple of the silly mistakes, then there is every chance that they can achieve everything that they have the potential to.

What about you? Do you think that Forest are being a little harshly treated by Prutton here? Or do you think he’s right and Forest still have a lot of work to do before making steps up the table?
