With Michael Mancienne being tipped to depart the City Ground in the near future, I wanted to poll opinion among fans about whether Aitor Karanka is making the right decision on letting him go.

After signing Tobias Figueiredo on a permanent basis and recruiting Michael Dawson from Hull, the 30-year-old’s days at the club seem to be numbered.

He had already fallen down the pecking order after the Spanish manager’s arrival last season, and it seems that with this summer’s signings, his fate has been sealed.

Mancienne will not only have to contend with Dawson and Figueiredo, but also Joe Worrall, and Danny Fox who was selected regularly by Karanka ahead of the former Chelsea and Hamburg centre-half. He will effectively be fifth choice next campaign.

Still, with the defender having played 135 matches for the club, in addition to captaining the side last season in Chris Cohen’s absence, selling such an experienced player needs to be carefully considered.

Karanka certainly knows his stuff when it comes to setting up a defence so who am I to argue. But what do you think? Let me know in the poll below:
