With Michael Mancienne being tipped to depart the City Ground in the near future, I wanted to poll opinion among fans about whether Aitor Karanka is making the right decision on letting him go.

After signing Tobias Figueiredo on a permanent basis and recruiting Michael Dawson from Hull, the 30-year-old’s days at the club seem to be numbered.

He had already fallen down the pecking order after the Spanish manager’s arrival last season, and it seems that with this summer’s signings, his fate has been sealed.

Mancienne will not only have to contend with Dawson and Figueiredo, but also Joe Worrall, and Danny Fox who was selected regularly by Karanka ahead of the former Chelsea and Hamburg centre-half. He will effectively be fifth choice next campaign.

Still, with the defender having played 135 matches for the club, in addition to captaining the side last season in Chris Cohen’s absence, selling such an experienced player needs to be carefully considered.

Karanka certainly knows his stuff when it comes to setting up a defence so who am I to argue. But what do you think? Let me know in the poll below:

  • 100% should go! Probably the worst defender we had last season. Always made mistakes and cost us points@

  • Seems to lack aggression in his play and even appears to be passive. Not good for for anyone who wants to be a competent defender

  • Had a nightmare season last campaign … but has been a rock in the past.
I think it’s time he moved on with all the new signings we have brought.

  • Should’ve been sold or moved on ages ago.
Poor defender in every way. Constantly out of position, no patience, commits himself & doesn’t see the obvious dangers.
If they can get money for him I’d snap their hands off.

  • I agree with Rob, he’s best as a defensive midfielder. Anyone who buys him as such will have a pretty decent player

  • Should move him into a back up defensive midfielder instead of signing Colback….would be good back up to bridcutt & Watson
