Joe Garner’s 3 year stay at the City Ground has come to an end today, as he makes a deadline day move to Championship rivals Watford.

According to the official sources at both clubs, Garner has signed a 2 year deal with the Hornets, for an undisclosed fee (thought to be around 500k).

Garner joined the Reds’ back in 2008 from Carlisle, for a £1.14m fee and made a total of 55 appearances for the club (20 as sub), scoring 10 goals.

Last season he had loan spells at Huddersfield and Scunthorpe, but failed to resurrect his career at the City Ground. He was a popular figure amongst the fans due to his tenacious attitude and ability to fight for the cause. Good luck in the future Joe Garner.

  • Glad he’s gone he’s crap. All he does is dive like a baby and gets sent off for doing stupid things. Bye garner you loser.

  • Glad my remark made you laugh Martyn, the problem is you spend 1 million pound on a player and in truth it dosent buy you much! Coming to watford there is less of an expectation on the player, if he scores and keeps us up this season, that’s a good job done. What do you reckon to Ian woan being a coach, think he has got it? I’m not sure!

  • Well he was a great player so should be a decent coach mate. He’s a nice guy as well 🙂

  • Two days ago our brilliant new manager said in terms we needed to make major signings before the transfer deadline or be resigned to failure. What did we do?We signed noone but managed to sell a player(who i thought was good)at a loss. Why are we discussing the merits of the player we sold at a loss?

  • Let’s hope he knocks in a goal or two for us this season… Remember players have a nak for turning around & biting you on the bum… Maybe don’t be so hard on the lad.. Just say goodbye…

  • Well, transfer window’s been and gone and what happens? We sell Joe Garner. McClaren must be pulling his hair out. I was glued to sky sports news last night clutching at the smallest of straws. It looks like loan deals from now on then.

  • It’s the 1st September and I am depressed !!! I really do like this manager – I think he has our best interests at heart but he will be gone or sacked coz the team will do rubbish as the board have shown no commitment to him/us/the team – they have no ambition – The manager will be a soft target when we start struggling because of the unfortunate baggage he carries & I think the board knew this when they hired him – if they dont invest and we play crap – they can blame the ‘brolly factor’ – if he does well on meagre resources – they can take all the credit for a great appointment – Either way the board wins – ITS TIME FOR THE FANS TO TURN ON THE BOARD NOT THE MANAGER
