It comes as no surprise to learn that Forest striker Nathan Tyson will be leaving the club, after refusing to sign a new deal at the City Ground. However, the manner in which he will be leaving paints a sorry and disappointing picture of how business is being conducted by the club at present.
Tyson signed for the Reds’ in 2005, in a £650,000 deal from Wycombe Wanderers. He scored 40 goals for Forest in his 6 years at the club.
The 29 year old earned himself cult status amongst fans back in 2009, with his flag waving antics in the 3-2 win over arch rivals Derby County. A mass brawl between both sets of players and coaching staff flared up at the end of the game, amidst scenes of Tyson parading the corner flag in front of the visiting Rams support. Both clubs were fined and warned about future conduct as a result of the incident.
Speaking in today’s NEP, his father and advisor Len Tyson said. ‘Unfortunately, Nathan is leaving Forest. He is very upset. He is perplexed at the way this has been done because he feels he has given the club loyal service for the past 5/6 years. The way this has been done shows a lack of respect. The club has not discussed this with him since his last contract was signed. All it needed was a phone call or meeting telling him he was no longer part of their plans and Nathan could have prepared his family for the pending move.’
In his time at Nottingham Forest, Nathan Tyson has been a good servant to the club. His passion and commitment to the cause has never been in doubt and he clearly had a great rapport with the fans. Injuries and a lack of composure infront of goal are the downside to his game, but he always gave 100% for the team. It’s a shame that someone who served them so well, has been treated so disrespectfully by the men in charge, but that just about sums up the way things are being run at the City Ground at present.
