According to The Sun (h/t Nottinghamshire Live), Danny Fox is ‘open-minded’ about the prospect of leaving Nottingham Forest for Wigan Athletic in January. The Latics are reportedly keen on a £200k deal to procure Fox’s signature and may have luck in bringing him to the DW Stadium before the winter transfer window shuts.

The club rejected an initial bid from Wigan for Fox, but the player might be the one to force a move due to contractual reasons. The left-back’s deal at the City Ground will expire in the summer and he may not be handed an extension. So, if Wigan offer Fox a contract of two or more years, he might be convinced to choose Athletic over Forest.

Fox has made 18 Championship appearances this season, operating at both left-back and centre-back for Forest. The 32-year-old had been a regular at the back until he suffered a foot injury in October which kept him out of action for nearly two months. Fox recovered at the end of December and was straight back into the side as captain.

If Forest don’t look to extend his deal, a move to 20th-placed Wigan could be on the cards.
