Plans are afoot for the January transfer window it would seem.

According to TeamTalk, Nottingham Forest are amongst the clubs that are monitoring Exeter City winger Randell Williams.

Williams only signed for the League Two side in January of this year, but his performances have obviously done enough to garner the attention of a number of clubs in higher divisions, with Forest being one of them. The Reds face competition from Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town for his signature, so it should be interesting to see if a bidding war occurs when the January transfer window opens.

I think this would be a bad move for Forest to make. As I have said before when talking about Tyler Walker and his potential recall, I have worries about players making the jump from League One to the Championship. This however would be a jump from League Two to the Championship which makes everything that little bit harder.

And whilst I do think that Forest could do with a little bit more depth out wide to cover for the likes of Albert Adomah and Joe Lolley (who I still have fears Aston Villa are going to come back in for at some stage), I just don’t want to see us taking a risk on someone like this.

Even if we sign him and then loan him out to a League One club to develop, I still don’t think we’ll be able to see him come good for us for another couple of years. Better to get someone in who can have an immediate impact than having to wait a while for us to finally get a decent return on our investment.

What about you? Do you think this would be a good move? Or do you think that the club need to look elsewhere when it comes to players out wide?
