Forest given £15m asking price for Premier League ace, but they need to take the gamble – Report

|

Should this be the end of it?

According to reports, Newcastle United are only going to entertain bids of at least £15m when it comes to their 29-year-old striker Dwight Gayle. Whilst a recent report in The Athletic claimed that Nottingham Forest were his ‘likely’ destination, something like this could be a huge dent in their attempts to sign him, especially given how strict the EFL have been in regards to Financial Fair Play, just take a look at Birmingham City last year.

The question that comes out of this though, is would a move like this be worth the risk?

Given that Nottingham Forest have been struggling in front of goal somewhat this season, having the joint 14th most goals in the division, so despite their impressive league position, it could be a lot better if they could find the back of the net more often, and given Gayle’s record in this division, he can clearly help them out.

Should the club take the gamble of paying such a high price, knowing that if things go bad, we could end up in a similar position to Birmingham and set the club back a number of years? I suppose we could offer a move similar to what Leeds United did with Helder Costa, in which we bring him in ‘on loan’ now and then pay the £15m if and when the club get promoted.

But if they want the fee now, then that raises a different matter.

Given the amount of money that is at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the Premier League, I think it’s a risk you have to take. Forest may never get a better shot at getting promoted, and they are just one piece away from completing the puzzle that can make them an even more serious threat in the division.

Is £15m too much of a risk for someone like Dwight Gayle?

Yes

No

Whilst Leeds and West Brom look like they’re about to run away with the division’s top two spot, a signing like this could give Forest that extra boost when it comes to the playoffs, which seem like a more reasonable target right about now.
