Forest attacker speaks about his desire for a new deal, but he must show more for it – Report

It’s a good start, but I’d still like to see a little bit more from him.

Having signed for the club in the summer on a one-year contract, there’s a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Sammy Ameobi to perform this year in order to convince the club he deserves another one.

Speaking during a social media Q&A on the club’s official website,  Ameobi was asked about his time at the City Ground so far and whether or not he would like to stay beyond his current deal:

“I’ve loved my time here so far, hopefully I’m working my way to a new contract, we’ll see”.

I must admit, that when he was first linked with the club, I wasn’t all too thrilled to see him linked. Mainly because I saw what his numbers were, both in League One and in the Championship and didn’t think that he’d be able to produce enough goals for him to really make an impact at the City Ground.

However, I must hold my hands up and say that I was wrong on this occasion. He’s been able to more or less nail down a starting place and has made some critical contributions to how well the team has done so far this season. Scoring the second in the 3-2 win away at Stoke City, and what turned out to be the winner in the recent 2-1 victory away at Luton Town.

However I still think it’s a little bit early to be talking about a new contract for Ameobi. I’d quite like to see if he can keep producing these numbers on a more consistent basis, rather than just have them pop up every now and again. Similar to how Lewis Grabban started the season off with a stretch of four goals in five games, I’d feel more comfortable in giving him a new deal if he could go on a run like that at some point in the season.

Does Sammy Ameobi deserve a new contract?

Yes

No

No

It doesn’t have to be goals; you can throw in some assists in there as well, but just something to give us a little bit more faith in his abilities going forward, regardless of what division we find ourselves in last year.
