Explained: Who is Nottingham Forest’s 22-year-old transfer target?

Nottingham Forest are expected to sign another striker in January to provide cover for Lewis Grabban. Sabri Lamouchi has Rafa Mir and Sammy Ameobi to call upon, but the pair have scored just one goal between them this season.

Mir has also just recovered from injury while Ameobi is more effective out wide, so a new face is needed. And according to Sports DNA, Forest have their sights set on Hugo Cuypers.

The 22-year-old has scored four goals in five Ligue 2 games for AC Ajaccio this season. Cuypers joined the French side on loan from Olympiacos in August and will return to Greece in late-June 2020.

The former Belgian u19 international has also played for Standard Liege (1 appearance, 0 goals), RFC Seraing (19 appearances, 6 goals) and Ergotelis (30 appearances, 22 goals, 3 assists).

Forest need a centre-forward to bolster their options, but it remains to be seen if Cuypers is an attainable target – it’s unknown if there’s a break clause in his loan deal that would allow him to move clubs in January.

Nevertheless, the striker has been prolific early into his career and could be a good option for Forest. Time will tell if progress is made when the winter transfer window opens.
