Explained: How is Jayden Richardson getting on at Exeter City?

Jayden Richardson joined Exeter City on a season-long loan in August and has made five appearances in all competitions under Matt Taylor. The 19-year-old was granted a temporary move away from Nottingham Forest as he wouldn’t command a starting place in the first-team, but Richardson hasn’t been a regular in League Two either.

The Englishman played 65 minutes in City’s 0-0 draw at Oldham Athletic (August 20), seven minutes in their 3-2 win at Morecambe (August 24), 63 minutes in their 2-0 home win against Port Vale (September 17), 36 minutes in their 1-1 draw at Newport County and 45 minutes in their 3-1 home defeat to Grimsby (September 28).

Richardson has the highly-rated Randall Williams for competition at right wing-back which is why he’s been on the bench at times. Nevertheless, he is getting minutes in the team which be of a greater benefit than playing in Forest’s reserves.

As for Exeter, the Grecians are enjoying a bright start to the season, sitting second in the table with 23 points from 12 games. City have lost just once in League Two and have the fourth-best defensive record (11) for their troubles. Richardson has played his part in that.
