Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka admitted following the victory over Ipswich Town in our last game that he would be looking into possibly recalling youngster Joe Worrall from Rangers in the January transfer window given how injuries are starting to mount in our backline.
The 21-year-old headed out of the City Ground on a season-long loan deal to Ibrox back in the August window as he searched for greater game time, and to date, he’s made eleven starting appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side, with a solitary showing from the substitute’s bench.
With Karanka admitting that he would be lokoing into the terms of the loan agreement to see if Worrall could become an option for us, it’s now been claimed that Rangers would resist all attempts next month should we try.
With Michael Dawson limping off with a possible hamstring issue, the severity of his problem is yet to be determined but Danny Fox is out with a foot problem, and Toby Figueiredo has two games of a three-match ban left to serve.
We do have options without a recall, and Dawson might not be a long-term issue but if our selection issues are only 1-2 games, I can’t see us recalling Worrall anyway given his game time – I think Karanka just meant it could be a worse case option more than anything having been given a leading question.
“I do not know if we can recall him. I need to check what the terms of the contract are.”
It’s been suggested (Mirror) we have no automatic recall, but at least to my knowledge (and I could be wrong) all loans have a natural January break clause in them but if enacted by us, there would likely be compensation to pay depending on loan fee arrangements.
The Mirror’s claim is that loose I wouldn’t put much stock in it though.
