Confident Calderwood – Up For It

Despite an injury list that makes the Forest treatment room look like the average Friday night in the Accident and Emergency ward at the QMC, Calderwood is happy that his troops are ready for the season ahead.

No sooner had the manager spoken, when Ian Breckin became the latest casualty to a Forest side that’s dropping like flies at the moment. He will be out for two weeks with a calf strain. Calderwood told the official site. ‘We’ve added to the list of injuries a little bit this week and because of that we’d have preferred another week of pre season, but we aren’t going to get it.’

Calderwood is confident his side can get off to a winning start against Bournemouth, despite these setbacks and says the side is over the nightmare that was Yeovil saying. ‘Last season is gone – We’re chasing what is a dream for many people in and around Nottingham. But hopefully we won’t find ourselves chasing because we want to put ourselves in pole position and lead from the front.’

The manager went on to say that they had learned from last season and although it was a memory, they would use it to build on. Fine words, but fans will not forget the Yeovil debacle in a hurry. If Calderwood is to succeed he needs to get the season off with a win, if only to keep the fans onside. There is no doubting his bad luck at the moment with the injuries to the squad, but that will be given short thrift by the fans if the points aren’t on the board within a few games. For weeks on end now these message boards have been filled with fans shouting out for the club to sign another striker, but on the eve of the season Forest go into a new campaign with only one fit striker to call upon.

It all gets underway tomorrow afternoon at the City Ground and promisses to be another long season. We do need a good start that’s stating the obvious, but patience is needed and I’m not sure that we (the fans) have got it.
