Colin Plays Guessing Game.

Colin Calderwood is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the squad formation for the start of the season. He has said that he is happy that the team can play and are comfortable with the 4-4-2, but wants them to be able to adapt to suit different opposition.

Whilst in charge of Northampton Calderwood favoured either 3-4-3. or 5-3-2 and had success with both. This is something his current charges are struggling to grasp at the moment. But Calderwood is set to try one of these out on Saturday against Leeds Utd, in Forests’ last warm up game of the summer, before the season gets under way proper on August 5 against Bradford.

Many fans are looking too closely at pre season results and the doom and gloom merchants are out in force before a ball has been kicked. Calderwood has been at the club for two months now and must now be just beginning to see what his starting 11 will be. He needs to be given time to assess the job in hand at the City Ground and will require the backing of the fans. He will have taken advice before his appointment as to the state of things at Forest and most people probably told him not to go near the place. If he didn’t know the size of the job in hand then, he certainly does now. We the fans know his current squad is not good enough if it performs as it did in the last campaign, but CC is convinced he has a new found team spirit and confidence that we have yet to see.

Calderwood has said he is unlikely to make any signings before deadline day, but has hinted at possible loan signings coming in. With one or two quality additions Forest will have a side capable of pushing for promotion. The one positive from the pre season is Forest have been playing possession football and knocking it about well, albeit without finding an end product. The season may well get off to a slow start which will keep the doom and gloom brigade happy, but what Calderwood needs from us is our support and he will sort out this awful mess that the club is in. Rome wasn’t built in a day, neither was Nottingham Forest.
