Swansea City are showing interest in Joe Worrall, according to the Nottingham Post. The centre-back is competing with four other centre-backs for a place in the side, and Aitor Karanka has suggested a move on loan could be on the cards.

When asked about the 21-year-old’s future, the manager said that the defender will find it hard to get game time if he stays:

“If Joe wants to go and it is the right place for him to play and all of us agree that it is the right thing for everyone – I would understand that… It will be difficult for him this season. To try to achieve something, you need experienced players. That is the reason why we signed players like Dawson and Hefele.”

The Swans are very light in terms of centre backs after offloading both Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez on deadline day. They also sold Alfie Mawson for £15m to Fulham earlier this summer.

Currently, Graham Potter has just two centre-halves in Mike van der Hoorn and Joe Rodon in his squad, which makes a move for another defender before August 31st very likely.

Worrall would therefore certainly get game time with the Welsh club, but should we be strengthening a division rival? For the player, a temporary move away could be beneficial. He played 35 matches in all competitions last season but with Dawson, Figueiredo, Fox and new signing Hefele ahead of him in the pecking order, he’s unlikely to get many games.

What should we do with the young defender? Let me know in the poll:
