Manager Mark Warburton has confirmed that we could be without Matty Cash for three months and Jamie Ward for around six weeks after they picked up recent injuries.

Cash suffered ankle ligament damage in the pre season friendly against Girona whilst Ward was carried off in the final friendly of the summer after landing awkwardly and damaging his calf.

With both having undergone the necessary medical scans and assessments on their problems, the time on the sidelines is now known, but Warburton remains hopeful they can both quickly hit the ground running when they return given the work they’d put in over pre season so far.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post the gaffer explained.

‘Matty Cash and Jamie Ward are injured, unfortunately, as you will be aware. Jamie was actually trying to avoid an injury against Burnley, but ended up coming off worse, with a freak injury. We are looking at four to six weeks for Jamie and Matty will be 10 to 12 weeks. That is a real blow, because both of them have worked so hard.’

Having put in the work over pre season so far, Warburton went on to say he didn’t think they would have many fitness issues once they were over the injuries themselves, so should make a swift return.

‘They were outstanding in pre-season. Both players worked tirelessly and I was delighted with their contribution. But the good news is that they have a fitness base. They have worked very hard in pre-season. We look forward to welcoming them back. They will work hard with the medical team I am sure and I am sure that time will fly by.’
