It looks as so the Joe Garner saga could be moving to a close, with news today from the Cumbrians that he has a release clause in his contract.

Carlisle United Chief Executive David Allen told their official site. ‘There is nothing we can do to stop any club speaking to Joe once they have reached the trigger. We have always wanted to keep Joe as a Carlisle player.’ The deal would be for £1.14M, which includes a £500,000 pay-out to Garner’s former club Blackburn Rovers along with a 50% cut of sell-on fees.

United fans are understandably unhappy at his likely departure and with 14 goals in 34 appearances last season, you know why. The trigger to get negotiations underway is £1.14M and it’s believed the Reds’ have already made that. The only problem now, is whether this revelation by Carlisle will trigger an auction for the player.
