Nottingham Forest slipped to within one point of the relegation zone, with a 1-0 defeat at the City of Cardiff Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Cotterill kept faith with the same team that fought so hard for all 3 points against Ipswich the previous week, but saw his side limited to just one shot on target throughout the entire game. Marcus Tudgay saw his tame effort easily saved by City keeper David Marshall in the first half.

A second half header from substitute Joe Mason was enough to give the home side the points and extended Cardiff City’s unbeaten run to seven games under Malky Mackay, to keep them within touching distance of an automatic promotion spot.

Paul Anderson continued his return from injury when he came on for the final 12 minutes. He had two chances to level the scores late on, but the Bluebirds managed to hold out.

Forest next play on Tuesday night, when they take on 5th placed Leeds United at the City Ground. They will be looking to bounce back from a 3-2 home defeat to Barnsley on Saturday and maintain their place in the top 6.
