Forest boss Colin Calderwood has told the official site that a new keeper is one of his main priorities this summer, as the Reds’ prepare for life in the Championship.

For most of last season, Forest played without adequate cover for first choice keeper Paul Smith and on many occasions played without a keeper on the bench.

Calderwood says he hopes to rectify this over the summer, but made no mention of who he was after. ‘I think it’s something we’ve got to look at. We’ve got Paul Smith and three youngsters in Dale Roberts, Paddy Gamble and Shane Redmond…We’ll need a more experienced keeper to a degree and we need someone to put Paul Smith under a bit more pressure.’

CC doesn’t think the three youngsters are quite ready yet and will look to get them fixed up with loan deals so they can gain that much needed experience.

Calderwood was playing his cards pretty close to his chest as usual and gave no hint as to who he was looking at. But, you’ll get no prizes for taking a wild guess on Mark Bunn at Northampton. According to the Cobblers Chairman David Cardoza, we’ve already made six bids for his keeper, but he wants a mill for him. Other keepers of note, but probably equally expensive could be Kasper Schmeichel or Keiren Westwood.
