Despite Nottingham Forest conceding five goals to Aston Villa on the night, Michael Dawson came away with a lot of praise from supporters after the two clubs took a share of the spoils in a ten-goal thriller. The veteran centre-back made eight clearances, blocked six shots and failed to give away a foul on the night.

The 35-year-old has impressed since Aitor Karanka introduced him to the defence in October and gave him the captaincy, with Dawson helping Forest to keep five clean sheets in his last eight Championship appearances.

He started the season as an unused substitute, featuring in just one league game up until October 3, but has now missed just one match from the nine that followed. The ex-Tottenham defender is a key player in his second stint at the City Ground.

Dawson has been praised multiple times by supporters for his performances at the heart of the backline. Forest’s 5-5 draw is only the second time he’s conceded more than one goal in a league game this season.

Karanka finally has a settled back-four, with Jack Robinson and Tendayi Darikwa nailed down the fullback slots and Tobias Figueiredo and Dawson in the middle. Figueiredo’s red card on Wednesday might see Michael Hefele replace him in the next handful of games, however.
