The 18 year old won the Academy Player of the Year award for his performances last season and even managed his first team debut back in March. The young Irishman has impressed and is set to give new signing Kelvin Wilson a run for his money regarding the number 2 shirt.

Those who are regular Reserve followers, have raved about his performances for a while now and have called for him to be given his chance. He has been tried out and tested in a few of the pre season games and has acquitted himself well. So much so, that manager Colin Calderwood may have a selection problem come Saturday.

Moloney has developed a reputation for being a utility player, having played centre half and midfield on occasions last season. His preferred position is right back and has performed the role of wingback impressively in the pre season games.

In the defeat to Derby last week he was one of the few stand out players in a poor game for Forest. He showed he isn’t afraid to go forward and take on a man. He has bags of pace and scores a few as well. One of his best attributes is his ability to cross a ball. Something that has been sadly lacking from the Forest armoury for some time. If Moloney is called upon to play in the side, fans can be confident that he will be able to do the job.

He follows in the footsteps of some great players to come off the Academy production line in recent years. Jenas, Dawson, Reid, Harewood and McGugan have all shown it can be done and Moloney looks all set to follow them.
