With clubs starting to circle Lamouchi, it’s time Forest gave him what he deserves – Opinion

|

Just like I said with Matty Cash, there’s an easy way to put these rumours to bed.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Watford made an approach for Sabri Lamouchi following the sacking of their manager Quique Sanchez Flores at the weekend, approaches which were rejected by Lamouchi, with further reports from GFFN saying that Lamouchi told them that he was happy at Nottingham Forest.

Back to what I said about Cash and how it relates to Lamouchi.

In that article I said that giving someone like Cash, who was being chased by a number of Premier League clubs (The Sun 15/11/19, page 74), a new contract would be a quick and easy way to get them off your backs. The same can be said of Lamouchi, who let’s not forget is still only on a one-year-contract.

Whilst he is yet to be ‘swamped’ with offers from other clubs yet, the fact that Premier League sides were taking an interest in him should act as a very big warning for Nottingham Forest that there is the potential of other clubs to come calling for him, be they in the top flight of from abroad.

That’s why Forest need to act quickly and offer him that new contract. There isn’t really a lot more than can be done by him to prove that he deserves it, and it would be a quick way of moving the club forward without having to make any drastic changes to the direction that the club is going in.

And even if he doesn’t manage to get the club promoted this season, at least he’s shown that he can take this team to near the top of the table, which will put them in a great position to make a challenge next year.

Does Lamouchi deserve a new contract?

Yes, he's done enough

No, let's wait a little longer

It really isn’t that complicated, and could help smooth things over along the way, both inside the club and out.
