Weir-Daley To Prove He Can Make It

Spencer Weir-Daley believes he can have a bright future at Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year old is currently on loan at Macclesfield, where he will remain until January.

Having already played three times for the League Two side, the striker hopes the move will bring some much-needed first team experience.

But, in the long-term, Weir-Daley’s goal is to prove he has a future at the City Ground – by forcing his way into Colin Calderwood’s plans when he returns in the new year.

‘I am happy with the faith the club have shown in me because I’ve been here a long time and it was good of them to give me a new deal,’ said Weir-Daley, who signed a one-year contract in the summer.

‘I think I’ve shown in training and in the small part that I’ve played that I can do it here. I can play a part.

‘I just want to prove to them that they made the right decision.’

Weir-Daley has spent the best part of two years on the sidelines following injuries to his knee and shoulder.

But he remains highly-rated by the Forest hierarchy and has been given another season to prove he can cut it at the City Ground.

Calderwood said: ‘I think he has a bright future.

‘Ideally he wants to get more playing time, but he has done his chances no harm so far.

‘He has scored in the reserves and there is a talent there.’
