We Won’t Be Fooled Again

At the end of the 2006/7 season, fans highlighted our lack of fire power up front as the main reason for our failure to get promotion (well, that and the fact we weren’t good enough). It’s now mid January and still the problem has not been addressed.

The club went some way during the summer to rectifying the failings in other areas and made some decent signings with the likes of Cohen, Davies, Wilson Lennon and Lockwood. All have performed with varying degrees of success, but at the time of their arrival, we all thought they were good additions to the squad. Those failings in the striker department were not sorted then and still need sorting now.

The last fortnight has seen us bear witness to the Leon Best saga, with no less than three bids being made for the player. The latest bid being a reported £1.1M. That’s quite staggering for a would be League 1 player and a valuation not many fans agree with, but Forest clearly want their man. It doesn’t seem as though Coventry City want to play ball though and Best himself has said today that he’s quite happy to remain at the Ricoh. He can’t say much else really in his position though, can he?

The club had better have a plan B, because failure in this transfer window WILL jeopardise our promotion chances, just as they did at exactly the same time last year. We can’t make the same mistakes again.

Supporters will not be fobbed off this time round with the same old excuses such as, ‘we will only sign quality,’ or ‘we won’t be held to ransom.’ They should have known their targets well in advance of the transfer window and had backup plans in case it all turned pear shaped. Of course this article could all become pointless if the appropriate additions are made. Let’s hope for all our sakes that it does.
