‘We don’t want to take more risks’. Lamouchi gives update on injured man

|

So it looks as if Lamouchi has been reading my articles.

Good, at least someone has.

Speaking in his press conference yesterday ahead of tonight’s game with Charlton Athletic, the Frenchman spoke about Joao Carvalho and how he is managing his return from injury:

“Joao will travel with us for the Charlton and Fulham games, he is getting better and better but he has only done two sessions with the team. To play, it is quite soon so I don’t think so. We don’t want to take more risks as we have worked with him for just two sessions but we are all happy that Joao is back.”

And it’s him talking about not wanting to take risks that has intrigued me. It’s nice to see that he’s and I share the same philosophy when it comes to the squad.

I spoke yesterday about how Forest needed to be careful when they considered bringing Carvalho back into the fold because things on the pitch have started to pick up. That if things are going well for Forest on the pitch, then it might be worth considering leaving the Portuguese playmaker on the bench for a while, not to change a winning formula as it were.

The fact that Carvalho is back in training at least shows that he is able to be called upon if necessary. But the fact that he has decided to take things slowly with Carvalho and not bring him back into the fold before he was ready certainly shows that he’s quite prepared to let things play out before making the call. Perhaps that result against Birmingham brought him a little bit of breathing space when it came to making the decision.

Yes, he’s decided not to risk him because of injury, however if things were going disastrously on the pitch, do you think that Lamouchi would still be talking like this? It’s nice to see that he has considered the implications of rushing him back not only on the player, but on the squad as well.
