We Can Still Win The Title

Despite being 10 points behind League 1 leaders Scunthorpe, manager Colin Calderwood says that the title race is far from over.

Calderwood wants to put pressure on Bristol City by taking maximum points from the next two games. He said, ‘I don’t think we are looking at second place now, I think we keep battling away. We said that we would, hopefully, have a realistic chance after this game and we still have that, it is not dead and buried. We have enough games left to play with.’ In fact there are only nine games left in which to pull back the deficit. But Calderwood thinks that both Scunthorpe and Bristol City will falter.

‘The next two are at home and it is important that we win them. That will give us a real step forwards.

‘A point is enough for us, because Scunthorpe do not gain a further advantage over us. We have got to do what they have done. We have to beat Gillingham and Cheltenham and that will take us forward.

‘If we can do that then the gap will be closer. Hopefully, when it comes to the Bristol City game, things will be closer.

‘I can still see us finishing above enough teams to get promotion, automatically. If we take six points from our next two matches, the gap will not be as big as it is at the minute.

‘Is there going to be a turnaround? We will find out in a couple of weeks. I can see them slipping up, surprisingly I can.’

One thing is for certain, it’s going to be a nervy end to the season.
