Watson joined forces with Calderwood whilst at Northampton, after retiring from the game at the age of 28 through injury. He has been part of the managers backroom staff ever since and was one of the first people brought in when CC took over at the City Ground.

Calderwood told the official site. ‘Joining a Premiership club is certainly a progression in terms of his career and I certainly don’t begrudge him the opportunity. I would like to wish him well and thank him for all his efforts and help he has given me in all our years working together.’

The club is now obviously on the lookout for a new keeper coach. Will the club kill two birds with one stone and appoint an experienced coach who can perform the roll of a backup keeper as well? We are woefully short in that department, with only Dale Roberts to call on if number 1 Paul Smith gets injured. Some people have suggested this may be part of the deal to bring Danns to the City Ground, but that seems unlikely doesn’t it?
