Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis McGugan is staking a claim to win the PFA Fans` Championship Player of the Month, after firing home a superb goal in the 2-0 victory against Ipswich at the weekend.

That was McGugan`s seventh of the season and David McGoldrick, who was the other player on target for Forest against the Tractor Boys, said: ‘Lewis is a great talent and if he keeps doing that, then the world is at his feet. He has got one of the best strikes I have seen in football with the power and pace he gets on the ball. I was a bit surprised to see it go in the top corner – but I was not surprised that he tried it.’

PFA Fans’ Awards Championship contenders at-a-glance:

Luciano Becchio – Leeds United.
Jay Bothroyd – Cardiff City.
Simeon Jackson – Norwich City.
Lewis McGugan – Nottingham Forest.

Every month of the football season, four fans who have voted for the divisional winners get the chance to present the PFA Fans` Player of the Month Award to their football hero on the pitch at a home game. One of the yearly fan winners will be selected at random to win the overall prize of attending the prestigious PFA Player of the Year Awards Dinner.
