Vital Forest – League 1 Review

After ten games (for most teams) the League 1 table is beginning to look a lot healthier from a Forest perspective. The 2-1 victory at home to the Monkey Hangers of Hartlepool sees the Mighty Reds move up to 5th with a game in hand.

The game of the day in the division saw Tranmere beat Southend 2-1 away. Southend started the day in third, but ended it in 7th. Tranmere took over top spot from former leaders Orient who were hammered 5-0 at home by Swansea, who seem to have shaken off their slow start to the season and are looking dangerous at present.

Carlisle sent Millwall crashing to the bottom with a resounding 4-0 win. All the goals coming in the first 45. Lions boss Willie Donachie will be a lucky man if he’s still in a job come Monday teatime. Carlisle move up to third a point behind the leaders on 18. Swindon have crept almost unnoticed into 6th, with the Gills on the receiving end of another demolition job losing 5-0. The still managerless Gills sit a point above the drop zone in 20th.

Bournemouth who started the day propping up the rest, jumped from bottom to second from bottom with a 4-1 win over hapless Crewe. It was only the Cherries second win of the campaign so far. The Tricky Trees next opponents Cheltenham picked up a handy draw with Oldham, who still can’t get on a run and themselves sit only a point from trouble.

Huddersfield who gave the Reds a run for their money on Tuesday night were dealt a wake up call away to Walsall where they lost 4-0. They had their second player in a week to get sent off for two yellow cards, when Frank Sinclair said cheerio on 54 mins. This was the Saddlers third win on the trot and sees them move up to 10th.

Now I keep on calling Leeds, Lucky Leeds and I see no need to alter that. Yesterday they were getting played off the park again, this time by Yeovil. Only for on loan Fester striker Mark De Vries to nick the points yet again, with yet another last minute goal. Lucky Leeds are now 12th. When their bubble bursts, you’ll hear about it here first.
